Interest:
I am a PhD student in the Movement Ecology Lab, studying the
migration of mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) and their role in the spread
of diseases such as avian influenza virus (AIV) and New castle disease virus
(NDV). Using solar-charged GPS tags, I aim to map out important breeding- and
stopover sites of mallards in the Palearctic-African Flyway (PAF). Additionally,
I collect disease swabs, blood and environmental samples (faeces) to determine
the prevalence and dynamics of diseases amongst the population of mallards
wintering in the Hula Valley. When combining this data on migration patterns
and disease prevalence, I eventually aim to model the spread of diseases by
mallards throughout their flyway.
My other interests include swimming, painting and elephants.
