I am a PhD student in the Movement Ecology Lab studying the migratory behaviour of the Eurasian crane (Grus grus). My research is based on movement data collected by solar-charged,GPS-GSM tags. In addition to the movement data, I aim to identify flock composition of cranes during migrations. To that end, we are developing an acoustic tag with a drop-off mechanism. I plan to use these tags to achieve individual identifications of cranes based on recordings of their calls while migrating. Additionally, what got me interested in biology and ecology in the first place was conservation. Thus, I plan to conduct my research from that perspective: I aim to study the agriculture-wildlife conflict surrounding cranes in the Hula Valley with the goal of reducing it for the benefit, not only of the cranes and regional species diversity, but also the local stake-holders.
When I'm not working on research, I like to spend time with my wife and two boys, hiking and baking sourdough bread.
