I am an MSc student in the Movement Ecology Lab, working on collective movement and its connection with sociality. My aim is to characterize the movement of flocks of Eurasian Jackdaws (Corvus monedula). Jackdaws are highly social birds, which establish long-term pair bonds, and form a strong linear hierarchy. They are frequently seen flying in coordinated flock flights. Using 2 synchronized high-speed high-resolution video cameras, I am analyzing the 3D trajectories of flocks of Jackdaws. In the future I hope to connect my findings with quantitative data on social hierarchy and associations among tracked individuals.
